Global Sat Recycle

In Belgium alone, there are at least 10 million mobile phones lying unused in drawers throughout the land. It is therefore good news that Global Sat takes back end-user mobile phones through you, the dealer. Global Sat works together with the specialist, Zone Impact, which is active on both a Belgian and international level. Even better news is that you - thanks to the advantageous returns refund - will be able to gain more customer loyalty and provide them with an extra discount on the purchase of a new phone without this costing you a thing. This is how we help you strengthen your market position. To give you an idea: the amount for the return of an iPhone 4G can be as much as EUR 300.

At the same time, you and we are making the world a greener place in which pre-owned mobile phones are given a second life.

Advantages of accepting returned mobile phones in stores:

  • You offer the customer an immediate reduction on the new phone they purchase at no cost to yourself
  • You receive a commission for each returned mobile phone that still has some value
  • You use a simple and efficient solution that does not take up much of your time
  • You have an economically interesting solution for meeting legal obligations governing the recycling of your customers’ used phones
  • You use a certified solution that meets European directive governing the processing of waste electrical and electronic equipment (the WEEE Directive).
  • You offer your customers an additional service that strengthens your market position and sets you apart from your competitors
  • You work together with the Belgian market leader in the sector

What are the procedures for taking back phones?

  1. When customers buy a new mobile phone, you propose taking back their old phone in exchange for a discount on the purchase price of the new phone. The amount of the discount will depend on the model and the condition of the mobile phone you take back.
  2. Log in on the returns application, select the phone you have taken back and answer the four questions about the condition of the mobile phone:
    1. Does the phone switch on?
    2. Is the screen intact?
    3. Is the battery present?
    4. Are there any missing parts?
  3. Inform the customer of the price you propose for the returned phone
  4. Enter the surname and first name of the customer and confirm the transaction
  5. Print a document of transfer of ownership and have the customer sign it

How do you send the mobile phone?

In the beginning, we will ask you to send the mobile phones in a self-addressed and stamped envelope as and when you receive them. When you average 10 returns per month, we will provide you with a tray in which you can put the mobile phones. This will be collected at least once a month (and replaced by an empty tray).

How will you be reimbursed?

Once we have received the phones, we will check the model and the condition of the phone in order to decide on the amount that will be reimbursed to you. If all the information that you have sent in matches our findings, we will pay you the full amount that you have paid the customer. If you have underestimated the value (if for example, it doesn’t turn on, but we manage to turn it on) or if you have overestimated the value (if, for instance you indicate that the battery is present when that is not the case) of the mobile phone, we will pay you the value of the mobile phone according to the condition in which we receive it. Payments will be made monthly.

What happens to the mobile phones afterwards?

All the mobile phones that come in are tested and, depending on the results, are broken down into three categories:

  • Reusing mobile phones: Most recycled mobile phones still work. After they have been tested and cleaned and all the data erased, they are resold. They go to Africa, the Middle East or Asia where the local population are thus able to purchase a mobile phone at a lower price.
  • Mobile phones where the spare parts are recycled: If the mobile phone is irreparable or in poor condition, the different parts are salvaged and used to repair other phones. Any surplus parts are recycled.
  • Mobile phones for recycling: All broken phones or ones that cannot be reused because they are too old are recycled by Umicore and the different components (plastic, metal, glass, etc.) are salvaged for recycling.
